Starting in November 2024, we can advise and help with all your rehab needs - from strains and sprains to joint replacement and back pain help.
You may or may not know that I have been teaching Pilates since 2001, during this time we have dedicated our teaching to helping as many people as possible.
My Pilates journey started in 2001 with my first teacher-training course, which led me to work in a busy NHS Pain management service teaching Pilates, sleep, and relaxation. Over the years, we have added skills and qualifications to our teaching toolbox:

Phew - as you can see I am always learning!
One more course I have recently added is L4 Pilates Therapy for the apparatus and mat.
What can I do with this new qualification?
Thank you for asking! The main difference is that I can rehabilitate specific joints (knee, hip, shoulder, etc.) and conditions: arthritis, strains/sprains, joint replacement, etc either referred directly from your GP/consultant or qualified Health Care professional or directly yourself.
This new qualification is at advanced-level learning, with critical thinking, movement analysis, and specific adaptations at its heart.

How does this differ from a general 121 Studio session?
Good question! Both offer excellent teaching (of course!), but in Pilates Therapy, we specifically work through areas that do not move well or with conditions that have prevented fluid and pain-free movement. These are target sessions where we have a 6-week plan to help you regain movement and have less pain.
Our general 121 Studio sessions tend not to target specific conditions, injuries or joints. Still, they are always aimed at keeping you healthy and moving and keeping the fitness and gains you already have.
Same teacher, same knowledge, different outcomes!
The Pilates Therapy courses sit very well with our current offerings of cancer recovery and neurological conditions.
More about the sessions...
As the sessions are targeted and not a workout, but targeted instruction, each session is 30 minutes long, though the first session is 50 mins as we have movement and posture assessments to complete.
Each therapy session is dedicated to helping you achieve your goals, and throughout the course covers 5 important elements of rehabilitation:
Pressure Point Release
Mobility Release
Muscle Balance & Stability
Strength & /endurance
Load (weights/resistance)
We ask you to complete simple homework which are moves that will enhance the work we do in the sessions and speed up the outcomes you want. These homework moves are as integral to the programme as the moves in the therapy sessions.
How do I know if the therapy sessions are right for me?
Another good question!
We offer a free Discovery phone call for an informal chat about your needs and for you to ask any questions you may have: it can last around 20 minutes or so. You can decide then whether you would like to book a Discovery the Studio session where you can meet me and try out the apparatus and chat further about your goals. There is a small charge for this payable on booking, but it is deducted from any future therapy session fees.

In 2025, we will be starting therapy classes, which will be small groups of similar joints/conditions and will include joint replacements and back pain.
I hope this gives you a quick insight into our new studio offerings, but as always please contact me if you would like more information on Pilates therapy or any of the specialist courses we offer.
Have a great week!
Cath
